Baldy Fly-In September 27 and 28, 2008
The annual Baldy Butte Oktoberfest Fly-in and Bi-Wing Fling is happening soon.
Here are the specifics:
Where
Baldy Butte, is located mid-way between Ellensburg and Yakima in the Yakima Canyon. It is a couple hour drive from Seattle.
When
September 27-28 (Friday afternoon flying is encouraged, too.)
What’s Happening
Lynn Bentley is planning some contests for teams of hang glider pilots and paraglider pilots for the Bi-Wing Fling. You can sign up Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. More to follow from Lynn…
There is a Potluck dinner Saturday night. Bring some awesome dishes and enjoy a couple of kegs of microbrew or soft drinks–the beer and soft drinks are donated so that all of the proceeds go to the site fund.
Donation
This is our annual Baldy Butte fundraiser. NWPC and CBCC members support this site by paying the site use fee to the landowner. This event is our way of helping to cover the cost. Pilots are asked to contribute $35.
Who is Invited
This is an inter-club event–everyone is welcome. Please invite pilots from out-of-town and out-of-state. Pilots must be current USHPA members. (Bring your cards.) Because this site is on private property, pilots are required to participate in a one-time site orientation and sign a waiver. If you haven’t done the orientation and waiver, please plan to do so at 10:00 Saturday morning.
What’s Included
In addition to the micro-brew and soft drinks, Bob Bunger will bring a porta-potti for use at the camping area. The camping is free, and we camp right down along the Yakima River.
What you can bring
You can bring an awesome potluck dish (and a camp stove to warm it up), a great attitude, and a 4wd vehicle to help us get up to launch. If you have a musical instrument, plan to bring it and make some music around the campfire! Vehicles need to be 4wd and have a fire extinguisher and shovel per our agreement with the landowner. As always, we need tables, chairs, campstoves, wood for the bonfire and some lights.
Questions???
We will post more information over the next couple of weeks, including directions and maybe even GPS coordinates for the sign-in area. If you have any questions, please give me a call or send me an email.
Volunteers
If you can bring a vehicle and drive a couple of rounds, you will be a hero. If you want to help with sign-ins and or setting up the potluck, you too will be a hero! Any help will be very much appreciated. And Sunday, we can always use another hand cleaning up. Let me know if you are willing to volunteer–even if it is just for a little bit!
